Boulder Canyon Backyard BBQ Chips

Hungry Dads’ field correspondents, Mr. & Mrs. Gary Costello brought these back to the HD Studio from Baltimore, Maryland.  Boulder Canyon is a brand out of Colorado and a favorite of celeb cook Rachel Ray. This summer, they put out some interesting gimmick flavors…

Boulder Canyon Backyard BBQ Peach Cobbler Potato Chips – While sweet flavored chips have not really taken off as beyond gimmick status, I found this mix of salty and sweet to be genuinely tasty – and they really grew on me. Totally addictive.  Boulder Canyon Backyard BBQ Peach Cobbler does very, very well with an appropriate peach flavor. It doesn’t taste like a jolly rancher – which is good. Not overly sweet.  However the sweet/salty ratio is not quite ideal. Boulder Canyon’s Backyard BBQ Peach Cobbler needs a bit more salt to balance its peach flavor and to ensure its own potato-chip-ness.  I also would also have loved to taste something that hinted at “cobbler” (graham cracker? cinnamon?).  Verdict: Tasty with good peachy-ness, but lacking some other flavor to balance and compliment.

Boulder Canyon Backyard BBQ Grilled Brats – These too were tasty, if a bit underwhelming.  When a chip is named after another food, I sort of expect the flavor to evoke (although not mimic) that named flavor.  I tried and tried to taste brats in these potato chips. But alas I only tasted a yummy, non-distinct salty flavor that could have been any bullion-based saltiness  Verdict: Tasty if indistinct, naught-brat flavor.
